OSWEGO (September 24, 2010)—Speaking to a packed house that poured out onto the sidewalk outside his campaign headquarters on West Bridge Street, state Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine told supporters Thursday that this campaign is about ensuring the people of Oswego County continue to have representation committed to creating jobs, reining in taxes and reform.
“Really, this is about all of us, together, regardless of party, being heard in Albany,” Sen. Aubertine said. “It’s not about the politics of the day. It’s about putting people in office who represent all of us. I’ve come into Oswego to ask for your trust again. It’s something I’ve had to earn. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know more and more of you and your issues over the past 30 months or so. We can’t agree on every issue, but I’m working to earn your trust in this election, so I can continue to take our concerns to Albany and stand up for all of us here and throughout the district.”
As the Senator representing Oswego County, Sen. Aubertine has fought to protect jobs in the county, passing an extension to Power for Jobs, ensuring that low cost power benefits continued, protecting 310 jobs at Birds Eye Foods and another 100 at Interface Solutions. He fought to keep A.L. Lee Memorial Open another year, and then made sure the state Department of Health came through with nearly $18 million to ensure the new Urgent Care Facility has what it needs to serve the people.
“He's committed to his constituents and solving the problems of the State of New York,” said Ed Williamson, Granby Town Supervisor. “He's honest and doesn't care about the political party of the people that he represents. He cares about the people. Because of all that he has done, including keeping A.L. Lee Memorial open for an additional year, he deserves the recognition of his constituents and the people of the State of New York.”
Sen. Aubertine passed Green Jobs Green New York legislation that will create hundreds of new construction and new energy jobs by creating incentives for homeowners and businesses to make improvements that will reduce their energy bills. He made sure that when Fort Ontario and Selkirk Shores were slated for closure, the funds were made available to keep all parks and historic sites in the region open.
“I am one-hundred percent behind Darrel Aubertine to continue representing us,” said Daryl Hayden, former Fulton Mayor and current Councilman. “He is the best candidate in the race and that is not because he is a Democrat—it is because he is a good and honest person."
The Senator has secured millions in legislative grants and capital funding for local projects in this county, and worked with Oswego County sportsmen to protect our gun rights and our snowmobile trail funds. He has stood up for farmers by restoring key funding for agriculture programs and ensuring the defeat of legislation that would have put many of our farms out of business. All this, while working to pass a budget that rejected permanent new taxes, cut general fund state spending by nearly half a billion dollars and rolled back spending by $5 billion.
“Darrel represents good and the honest government,” said Dan Mahaney, Hannibal Highway Superintendent. “He's someone this county and State need, regardless of politics. Partisan politics has nothing to do with honest government. I know that Darrel has not lost his roots and he remembers where he came from. He is someone we can trust.”
Now, Senator Aubertine is looking to continue working to reduce our property taxes, help our farmers to earn a living putting food on our tables, provide our children with a future, and transform the Power for Jobs program to make it a permanent and sustainable job creation tool called Energize New York with benefits targeting Upstate New York, farms and other small businesses. The Senator is working to clean up Albany, having already passed historic rules reform to level the playing field for all Senators regardless of Party. Now he’s working to pass good government legislation that includes ethics reform and non partisan redistricting.
“Darrel transcends politics,” said Mike Kunzwiler, Oswego County Legislator. “The moment you meet him for the first time you realize that he is one of us. And as our Senator he really is standing up for all of us. He doesn't represent any political party. He stands for the people in his district.”
